Top Tips on Making a Kick-ass Creative CV

What on earth is a Creative CV and when should you make one? Well we've got the perfect answers to those questions right here - from Fashion Promotion student Abby Brooks!

What is a Creative CV?

According to Oxford University Careers Service, a creative CV helps to show off your creative skills and enables you to utilise aspects of design, art, technology, animation and production!

Creative CV's are often used when you are applying for a particularly creative role, such as a design or creative marketing job.

How do I structure it?

The idea of a Creative CV is that you use your own imagination to design it - but we've got Abby Brooks, a Fashion Promotion student at Manchester Metropolitan University, here to help inspire you!

How did you creative your CV?

Abby created her CV for the fashion website Boohoo, after finding inspiration from a placement meeting.

"My CV for Boohoo was based on a 'lost property' bag from a night out, which I decided on because I remembered in their placement talk, they mentioned how they like to socialise and go on nights out."

Abby told us that she designed the print-outs for her CV on InDesign and Photoshop, where she created ID cards, a lost property tag and a print out with her links, CV content and photo-booth photos - cool right?

And the finishing details? She put it all together with an empty wine bottle and a clutch bag.

Perfect!

How do I make a Creative CV that stands out?

"When a job asks for a Creative CV, the application process can become extremely competitive, so it's important to stand out," said Abby.

Abby advised making sure you get the right balance between the actual content of the CV and the creative side.

"Try to create a balance between content and creativity, you should be able to retain a creative flair whilst also showcasing your skills and experience in the text!"

Don't forgot your portfolio work!

Abby also cleverly managed to incorporate some of her portfolio work into her Creative CV.

"If you can, try to include some of your own creative work, such as illustrations, photography or whatever you do.

"I did this in the form of photobooth-style photos, so it was in a more creative way and not just me showing off my work."
